JOURNEYMAN POWERLINE TECHNICIAN
Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) Hydro has an immediate opening for one (1) Journeyman Powerline Technician in its Operations Department.
NOTL Hydro is the regulated electricity distributor for the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake serving over 10,000 residential and commercial customers. In addition to having some of the lowest rates in the Niagara Region, NOTL Hydro strives to provide excellent customer service, develop and maintain an electrical distribution system that can meet the changing needs of our customers and provide a fair return to our municipal owner.
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Supervisor and work under the direction of Lead-Hands. The candidate can expect to work in an environment in which he/she has regular interaction with all other employees of the company and thus have exposure to all facets of the business. You will work on a line crew doing service work, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems (up to and including 27.6kV), metering and vegetation management. The successful candidate will be placed on an on-call rotation responding to service calls within thirty-five minutes during after-hour periods, in accordance with Article 10 of the collective agreement.
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
Certification as a Journeyman Powerline Technician accredited to work in Ontario
- Valid class DZ Ontario Driver’s Licence and a clean abstract
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma
- Competent in the construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
- Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents
- Must have a good safety record, demonstrated safe work habits and mechanical aptitude
- Knowledgeable and competent with IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Reg. 22/04 Electrical Distribution Safety, OTM Book 7 Temporary Conditions, Utility Work Protection Code, Working at Heights, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid
- Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting and follow instructions from Lead Hands and Management
- Must have good communication skills both orally and written, including ability to maintain good logs and other records
- Good knowledge of computer applications
- Good interpersonal skills especially dealing with customers
- Excellent physical condition to perform all tasks associated with work in all outdoor elements, with the ability to climb and work confidently at heights of up to 60 feet
This is a full-time position located in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is a unionized position and includes compensation and benefits in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
