NOTL ELECTRIC OUTAGE DUE TO A HYDRO ONE TRANSMISSION LINE

May 14, 2012

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – May 14, 2012 – Some early risers in parts of Niagara-on-the-Lake were greeted to a brief power outage caused by a downed power line. A Hydro One transmission line, that feeds the NOTL York substation, was identified as the issue at approximately 5:30am. All power was restored to customers by 7:30am.

The power loss affected residential and business customers along the QEW corridor in NOTL Hydro’s territory including White Oaks Resort & Conference Centre, Niagara College and residents of Niagara-on-the-Green. Hydro One crews rerouted power in order to correct the affected transmission line. While power was restored at 7:30am, the affected transmission line was fixed at approximately 3:30pm and all power was rerouted back to the original configuration.

Hydro One builds and maintains electric transmission lines in our area of Ontario. Over 30,000 kilometres of transmission lines criss-cross the province, carrying electricity to large-volume consumers and utilities for distribution.
