2021 Hydro Box Wrap Winners Announced

November 11, 2021

Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro, working in cooperation with the Communities in Bloom Committee of Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, is pleased to announce that this year’s winning artists were awarded with an honorarium at a private ceremony that was held on Thursday, October 28, 2021.   The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre has the winning artwork on display until November 25, 2021.

Artist – Brittany Blyth

This year’s wraps are all located around the Shaw Festival Theatre and preference was given to submissions that are dramatic and/or complement the performing arts.  “It has been so exciting and rewarding to see these beautiful examples of public art around the buildings. How perfect to take a utilitarian object and use it to bring more beauty, as well as more energy, into the world” commented Tim Jennings, Executive Director of the Shaw Festival.

Artist – Elaine Bryck

The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre manages the call for submissions and selects the winning entries. “The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is grateful to NOTL Hydro for supporting our local artists.  This year saw 33 artists submit images on the theme of “Drama”. The most submissions ever received, demonstrating how popular this annual event is for artists and citizens alike.  One can only wonder what next year may bring.” said Lise Andreana, Chair of the Board.

Artist – Lynne Gaetz

The hydro box wrap program is supported by the Communities in Bloom Committee.  “I am so delighted to see the continued success of these wraps,” said Lord Mayor Betty Disero, “it is one more example of our efforts to maintain Niagara-on-the-Lake’s reputation for culture and aesthetics.

2021 was the third year of the Hydro Box program and plans are now underway for 2022. Said Tim Curtis, President of Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro, ‘I continue to be amazed at the quality of the artwork submitted and this year is no exception.”
