2022 Hydro Box Competition Winners

September 19, 2022

Last Thursday, Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro (NOTL Hydro) provided cheques of $500 to each of the winning artists in this years Hydro Box wrap contest.  The Hydro Box wraps is an annual initiative to wrap three boxes to support local artists and add to the visual attraction of the Town.  It is a joint effort by NOTL Hydro, the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Gallery and the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Communities in Bloom.  This is its fourth year and the contest this year had a Niagara-on-the-Lake military history theme.

Two of the winners were chosen by a jury from the Pumphouse Arts Gallery.  They were:

“Fire at Will” by Nancy Wardle
To be located near Fort George

“D-Day” by Philip Wormwell
To be located by the Legion

New this year, the third winner was chosen by voting by patrons to the Pumphouse Arts Gallery where all the artwork was displayed.  A total of 149 votes were submitted.  The winner was:

“Courage and Sacrifice” by Jane Morris
To be located near Fort Mississauga

NOTL Hydro would like to thank Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 for supporting this years’ project by allowing their logo to be placed on each of the wraps in honour of the theme and all that the Legion represents.  In a fitting coincidence, Jane Morris used to work at the Legion.
